United
For Youth Update 18/01/05
The
success of the First Foot Ne’erday Hospitality Day and
the fun Quiz Night at the Market Inn last Friday has allowed
a further donation from the Trust to Ayr United’s Skillseekers
Scheme.. Including this recent £1.000, a total of £3,000
has now been freely donated to the Club by big hearted fans
to support the youth programme. Further fund-raisers are planned.

The
Honest Men Trust raised over £500, for United For Youth,
at the Stranraer match last Saturday when a fans hospitality
day took place. Over 70 supporters attended the event and enjoyed
hot rolls and drinks prior to kick off. A raffle took place
with Matt Noble from Girvan winning the first prize of a package
of full hospitality for 2 at the next home league match with
Stranraer. Fans then enjoyed watching the match from the hospitality
boxes with pies at half time. A few drinks were consumed at

The
Honest Men Trust have teamed up with the Club to support some
of the most promising young players in Scottish football –
Ayr United’s band of 10 Skillseekers. The Trust’s
effort will focus on raising funds from amongst the wider fans
network and its own 300 members to maintain this youth programme.
An ambitious target of £25,000 has been set to ensure
the continuing viability of the scheme. There are currently
10 young players in the scheme. Fans have already seen the likes
of Robert Burgess, Craig Conway and Boyd Mullen in first team
action and know there are other youngsters knocking on the first
team door. The Trust and Ayr United recognise these lads represent
the future and that the acknowledged financial difficulties
should not jeopardise this important part of Campbell Money’s
legacy.
As
well as donations being canvassed, a programme of social events
is being mounted over the winter months not only to raise the
much needed cash but also to update and involve fans in influencing
the development of the Club and Trust. It is at least guaranteed
to give enjoyment and laughs. The programme will include ever
- popular Race Nights, the hugely enjoyable Sportsman’s’
Dinner, Burns Supper, exciting Quiz Nights, Match Hospitality
Days and the big annual Player of the Year dinner. All the events,
whenever possible, will be held at the Hospitality Suite at
Somerset Park again supporting the Club.
At
a joint meeting, the Trust was assured that although there were
financial problems, serious ones, Ayr United were not in crisis
as reported in some national press. Regrettably, cuts had to
be made to ensure the longer term viability and success of the
Club. On this basis, the Trust’s Committee felt that assisting
the youth programme over the course of the rest of the season
was the best way they could assist the new management team of
Mark Shanks, Robert Reilly and Robert Connor. The Club has welcomed
this support.
