"I
would welcome any financial commitment and would be delighted
if I was able to enter the transfer market in January
and bring in a player or two." Campbell Money.
The
Honest Men Trust have launched a campaign to raise funds
to help Campbell Money strengthen the United squad when
the transfer window opens after Christmas.
Trust
Spokesman Donald McNeill said: "The response
is very promising and a lot of people say they support
the idea. The good trick now will be actually turning
it into hard cash for the club. More than half the respondents
to an independent Ayr United web site say they are in
favour of the plan. We want all Trust members and Ayr
supporters to rally round and raise much needed cash by
setting up a weekly direct debit scheme or providing a
donation."
"At
Swansea City, the Supporters' Trust set a target of raising
£10,000, through a similar scheme, and ended up
raising a magnificent £25,000. At that time, they
were in danger of dropping out of the English Leagues
and are now riding high in the Third Division. I think
we can do well but we need all with Ayr United in their
hearts to rally round."
Mr
McNeill added: "No way are we telling Campbell
how to run the club. All we are trying to do is raise
money so that when the time comes, he is in a position
to spend."
The
move has been hailed by boss Money who said: "I
would welcome any financial commitment and would be delighted
if I was able to enter the transfer market in January
and bring in a player or two."
Mr
McNeill revealed the Trust had assurances from club owner
Donald Cameron and chairman John Duncan that they are
investigating the possibility of shares being issued.
He added: "Hopefully the Trust will be in a position
to secure some of these shares."
Leaflets
outling the Trust's plan to set up a players' fund were
again distributed at Saturday's game against Inverness.
