THE HONEST MEN TRUST

Trust FunDay A Success

Henderson - scorer at FunDay

Great weather and as promised a feast of football for all age groups. For over three hours the 400 or so fans saw goals galore laced with thrills and spills a plenty.

Penalty Competition

A well- deserved 14th birthday celebration for Andrew Malone of Stewart Avenue, Ochiltree. Andrew struck a perfect 5 out of 5 sweet left foot penalties at the first time of asking past promising Ayr United goalkeeper, Darren Johnson. He put paid to any idea from his elders of a sudden death shoot out. Andrew received an Ayr United top signed by Andy Walker; Ayr’s all time penalty king

Kaisayr 5 – Honest Men All Stars 0

Great to see genuine United die-hards in action at Somerset. Top internet team Kaiser proved too strong and slick for the Honest Men. Little wonder as they are currently challenging for the championship of the British internet league and looking forward to a semi–final against the mighty Arsenal.
On the mark for Kaisayr were Pete Noble (2), David McJannet, Gio Dunlop and Puff Gamble. Not surprising Pete Noble was the Kaisayr man of the match with Jim Stevenson, an under pressure keeper, receiving the Honest Men honours.

Reilly’s Masters 5 1988 Champions 2

(Scorers : Masters - Alan McTurk 3, Robert Reilly, Darren Henderson) (Champions - David Kennedy and Tom Porter)

The main event saw a return to Somerset of the maestros of yesteryear and the fans lapped it up. Robert Reilly’s Masters served up silky football with a killer touch while the 1988 Champions squad battled bravely without a real cutting edge and perhaps slightly older legs. Deft touches, excellent ball control, accurate passing and a willingness to have a go at goal demonstrated why both sets of player were such favourites over the years at Somerset. Punter Tom Porter playing as a guest was delighted with his late goal effort.

Reilly’s squad – Michael Robertson, Stevie Farrell, Kevin Biggart. Andy Millen, Derek McCutcheon, Malcolm Shotton, David Irons, Robert Connor, Alan McTurk, Robert Reilly, Robert McNey, Darren Henderson
Star Man – hat trick man Alan McTurk

1988 Champions squad – George Watson, Mark Shanks, David Kennedy, Willie Furphy, Ian McAllister, Kenny Wilson, Tommy Bryce, Ross Scott, Tom Porter, Gordon McBlain, Jim Cowell
Star Man – defiant keeper George Watson

Douglas Smith, former Grade 1 referee from Barassie, Bryan Connolly from Maybole and David Kinghorn from Irvine ensured all the games flowed smoothly and contributed greatly to the enjoyment.

Ian Ferguson of West Sound did the commentary honours and kept the fans update with on field action.

All agreed including some very tired players there was an appetite for this type of non pressure but enjoyable football. Great effort with thanks to all players, official for their voluntary services. Over £1000 raised for Trust charity.
