THMT Player of the Year – Alan Forrest

The Honest Men Trust Player of the Year 2014/15 The Ayr United Football Academy enjoyed a stellar evening on Sunday at their end of season awards night, with Academy graduates Alan Forrest and Robbie Crawford handing out the prizes to our current crop of talented youngsters and the news Silver Star Status had been achieved. The night also provided an ideal opportunity to present Alan with a trophy of his own as the 18 year old forward has been voted the Honest Men Trust Player of the Year. His name joins Robbie’s on the Ally MacLeod Memorial Trophy after Robbie became the first AUFA player to earn the accolade in 2013. Alan, who joined AUFA in 2010 aged 13, finished this season as United’s top goalscorer with 9 goals, including the vital third at Station Park which ensured the Honest Men’s League 1 safety. Alan was presented the trophy by Ayr United Assistant Manager John Henry. Congratulations to Alan and here’s to many more Academy graduates winning the Player of the Year award for the ‘big team’ in the...

Moffat Nets Trust Award

Prolific striker Michael Moffat may have left Ayr United for pastures new but before he did he added another accolade to his personal haul of awards this season, after being named The Honest Men Trust’s Player of the Year. League 1’s top scorer was the unanimous choice of the Trust’s members and becomes the twelfth recipient of the Ally MacLeod Memorial Trophy. The Moff’s role at Ayr United extended beyond the pitch and it was fitting that he received his reward recently by the Mild Disabilities Team at Queen Margaret Academy. Michael has been one of the team’s coaches throughout the season and the kids were delighted to award him the trophy. The coaching is provided by the Ayr United Football Academy under their Everybody Active programme and THMT are delighted to be long-term sponsors and supporters of the Academy and their work in the community....

19s SFA Youth Cup 2012

19s SFA Youth Cup 2012 Adventure Begins After two consecutive quarter final appearances for the 19s in the premier cup competition in Scotland, the players and coaching staff will look to this year’s tournament as the one that could eventually see the 11 year gap since their last final appearance be overcome. Not since season 2001-2002 have an Ayr United side reached the final of the Youth cup, losing that day to Rangers 4-2 at New Douglas Park. The irony of this weekend’s meeting with East Fife hasn’t been lost on the two teams involved after last week’s league proceedings had to be stopped after a player from each side left the field with leg breaks. Although the furthest things from their minds when the incidents occurred, both players will be sickened at missing out on this important Scottish Cup match. The cup format changed slightly this season as the SPL sides under 19 league made way for an under 20 league setup meaning that the SFL clubs have a harder task to progress as they take on not only teams that are classed as better teams, but the age change also means the lower league sides are taking on teams with older players. This change didn’t stop the Fifers defeating Motherwell in the previous round though and the result came as a shock to many of the watchers who expected an easy passage for the SPL club. East Fife have struggled in their league outings so far this season with only the one point gathered from five games played so perhaps they are saving their best for the cup competition. Ayr will be hoping otherwise come Sunday. A victory for the home side on home soil will do wonders for the players as they continue on their annual Scottish Cup adventure with the hope of not only breaking that 11 year wait for a cup final appearance but also the belief that they could perhaps bring home the cup for the first ever time. Kickoff is 1pm at Somerset Park on Sunday 21st October with free entry for...
