Goalden Goal 2014/15

GOALDEN GOAL is back for the new league campaign! The Honest Men Trust’s popular competition gives you the chance to win up to £45 each time Ayr United play. The competition will run for all of Ayr United’s 36 League 1 games of this season, starting with the home game against Morton on Saturday 9th August.  Entry costs £36 – just £1 per game. For anyone new to the competition, entrants are allocated a different ‘minute’ for Ayr United games and if the first Ayr United goal is scored in that minute – you’re the winner of the cash prize! For example, if you draw the 25th minute and Alan Forrest smashes home Ayr’s first goal in the 25th minute – you win! Entrants will be drawn a different minute, by random, for each match. THMT are long running sponsors of the Ayr United Football Academy, contributing over £1000 a season. They also back a number of Ayr United’s commercial opportunities, including recently sponsoring the back of the teamsheet and as shirt sponsors of captain Scott McLaughlin. Proceeds from Goalden Goal will go directly to continuing this support. Entry costs £36 and covers 36 matches and you can arrange to pay in installments if you wish. The prize each match will be 50% of the money raised that game or a voucher for the Ayr United Club Shop rounded up to the nearest £5. For full details, rules and to enter the game...

Join The Honest Men Trust… and win a signed Ayr United shirt!

The Honest Men Trust are offering Ayr United fans the chance to win a signed Ayr United shirt. All you need to do is join or renew your membership of the Trust, which costs just £10.  One member will be drawn at the end of the season to receive this season’s home shirt signed by the squad. The Trust is now in its tenth season, having formed in 20o3, and continues to support Ayr United Football Club, Academy and work towards our principle goal: a financially sustainable, open and inclusive Football Club owned by its supporters which is a genuine community asset. Much has been achieved in the last ten years. We have seen the formation of the Ayr United Football Academy, an organisation which had its genesis as part of a THMT initiative.  The Academy goes from strength to strength and THMT continues to play its part by having a representative on its board. More recently we have seen the formation of a working group containing all major stakeholders in Ayr United, looking at transferring the majority shareholding of Ayr United Football Club into community ownership, with a constitution which provides an ‘asset lock’ for Somerset Park.  Once again, The Honest Men Trust are playing their part in this and are represented on the working party, trying to ensure that, as much as possible, a solution is found which maximises THMT’s values of: democracy, sustainability and transparency.  The process of trying to alter the governance of Ayr United towards a set of articles which will secure the club in perpetuity, is one which as an organisation we have been quietly championing for almost four years, indeed since our formation in 2003. We continue to support both the Club and the Academy financially, through various sponsorships, and continue to offer and provide assistance when it is sought, where possible.  Membership subscriptions and fundraising efforts such as the successful comedy night in October (supported by Supporters Direct Scotland and the Co-operative Group) and Goalden Goal are vital in supporting the Trust to support Ayr United Football Club and Academy. As a Trust we have also been approached for assistance by both Whitletts Victoria and Girvan Football Club, and in both instances members of our Society Board provided help in the form of shared knowledge and ideas. This knowledge has allowed both of these football clubs to progress in a more community-based and inclusive direction, which we believe is to their, and their fans benefit.  The help given to these two clubs reflects one of the roles of THMT to “support and encourage the game of football in South Ayrshire as a recreational facility, sporting activity and focus...

Community Ownership Week

On Monday, a week of celebrating and promoting fan and community ownership of sports clubs will be launched by Supporters Direct Scotland. With four SPFL clubs already operating as community and fan owned clubs and a further four, including Ayr United and Hearts, progressing towards or exploring the same ownership model, Community Ownership Week aims to educate and inspire more supporters trusts and fan groups to become involved in the ownership of clubs for the benefit of their respective communities. Community Ownership Week will run between the 19th and 25th of February, Supporters Direct Scotland will host a weeklong celebration of the community ownership movement across Scotland. Paul Goodwin, Head of Supporters Direct Scotland said: “Dunfermline, Stirling Albion, Clyde and East Stirling are already community owned clubs and others, including Motherwell, Ayr United and of course Hearts are progressing towards the same model. “Supporters Direct, as a whole, has a lot experience of fan and community owned clubs and has worked with and advised clubs across Europe. We know that fans and communities have many questions about how it could work for them and Community Ownership Week is all about providing answers. It will also give us a chance to celebrate the movement of supporter involvement and ownership of their clubs.” Throughout the week a range of events will be held to promote the movement to various stakeholders within the game, including an open evening at Supporters Direct Scotland’s office for Supporters Trusts and a presentation on the movement to MSPs at Holyrood on the 20th of February.
