Let's Be United

The Honest Men Trust have signalled their desire for the local community to rally round and secure the future for Ayr United FC following the announcement by the clubs’ majority shareholder Lachlan Cameron that he was prepared to sell his majority stake in the First Division club.

Speaking after the Trusts’ board meeting this week Chairman Callum Yorke expressed his delight that Mr Cameron has called for the community to ‘step forward’ to ensure the club can move forward.

" Lachlan (Cameron) has been at the helm during a really difficult period for Ayr United and we thank him for his stewardship of the club during this time which has seen Ayr United return to the First Division."

" I believe that in the current economic climate that it is unlikely that one individual or group will come forward with the requisite finance to buy a majority stake in the club and that a form of community ownership is the only way ahead. The success of the Ayr United Football Academy proves what can be achieved when you can bring community organisations together and a similar proposition could be the way ahead for a club like Ayr United."

" Throughout the world, including at some of the biggest clubs in the world, there are many examples where supporters own the club via a membership scheme and where together with the support of the local business community the local football club can develop and prosper to the wider benefit of the local community and I can see no reason why this could not be achieved at Ayr United."

"As the club approaches its’ Centenary Year, there is a genuine prospect for a new beginning for Ayr United, that could see a new style of football club emerging that is unique in Scottish football and that could form the platform for the club for the next one hundred years. If there are people and like minded organisations who can buy into the vision of a community football club, now is the time for us to get together for the benefit of both the football club and the wider community."
